Inner finned tube or internally-finned tube is heat transfer pipe with fins formed on the inside. Such flat and smooth tubes have a larger internal surface area compared to smooth pipe (formal steel pipes with a circular cross section) and possess superior heat transferability. Finned tubes are used in applications involving the transfer of heat from a hot fluid to a colder fluid through a tube wall. The rate at which such heat transfer can occur depends on three factors:
(1) the temperature difference between the two fluids;
(2) the heat transfer coefficient between each of the fluids and the tube wall;
(3) the surface area to which each fluid is exposed. By extending the surface of heat transfer tubes , inner finned tube with longitudinal ribs increases efficiency of heat transferring performance. Compared with the normal smooth tube, heat transferring coefficient of inner finned tube can be increased 3-4 times.
