Studded tubes/Studded finned tubes for heat exchangers

Studded tubes are metal tubes with studs welded to them. These studs are arranged in a specific shape along the length of the tube. They are commonly used in boilers and refineries. They are also used for reheating as they increase the heat transfer surface area and thus the heat transfer efficiency.

Nailheaded tubes are also called nail-finned tubes.

In the petrochemical industry, nailheaded tubes are widely used. Especially in the convection chambers of tube furnaces, nailheaded tubes are often used as heat transfer elements to improve the heat transfer effect outside the tube.

Studded finned tubes (Tubos Aletados) are made by welding special studs (round pins) around the tube in rows by resistance welding. The studs are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. Also called pin-finned tubes. Studded tubes have extremely high heat transfer efficiency, with a heat exchange efficiency equivalent to 2-3 times that of bare tubes. It can increase the surface heat transfer coefficient from flue gas to furnace tubes and reduce the use of bare tubes in these processes. (The heat transfer area of one stud tube is equivalent to the surface area of 4 to 10 bare tubes).

Stud tubes are commonly used in furnaces and boilers where the surface is exposed to extremely corrosive environments and very dirty gas streams require frequent or intensive cleaning.

Improve efficiency in heat recovery processes and direct flame harsh environments.

Stud tubes are ideal for process applications using dirty fuels and harsh environments with temperature and/or corrosiveness. Especially suitable for very dirty flue gas generated by burning heavy oil, diesel or residual oil, it is easier to clean.

It has a strong tolerance to harsh environments (such as sulfuric acid environments), making it very practical in the above industries.

Finned tubes are a heat transfer element that increases the heat transfer area by spirally winding fins on the base tube. The fins form a strong mechanical contact with the base tube, which greatly improves the heat transfer efficiency.
Finned tubes are widely used in economizers, boilers, heat exchangers, tube bundles, radiators, air coolers, air preheaters, etc.
