What is a Stainless Steel Finned Tube?

Stainless steel finned tubes are made by high-frequency welding of steel pipe and steel strip, primarily using 304 or 316 stainless steel. They are wear-resistant, innovative, and highly efficient heat exchange components. Fins are typically added to the outer surface of heat exchange tubes to increase the outer (or inner) surface area, thereby improving heat transfer efficiency.

Stainless Steel Finned Tube Structure

Stainless steel finned tubes can be categorized into wound, serrated, welded, and rolled fin types. The fins are smooth, burr-free, and wrinkle-free, resisting scaling and making them easy to clean and drain. They also offer low flow resistance and maintain excellent heat transfer performance over time. They are aesthetically pleasing, offer high strength, minimal flow loss, and strong corrosion resistance. They resist deformation under long-term hot and cold operating conditions and have a long service life.

Applications of Stainless Steel Finned Tubes

They are widely used in waste heat recovery in power generation, metallurgy, cement production, and petrochemical operations. Mainly used in petrochemicals, economizers, waste heat recovery, greenhouses, power plant boiler greenhouses, and industrial fields such as wood drying.

How to determine the quality of stainless steel finned tubes?

1. Identifying the Material of Stainless Steel Finned Tubes

Composition Analysis
Spectroscopic testing confirms the content of chromium (≥16%), nickel (8-14%), and molybdenum (2-3%). 316 stainless steel, due to its molybdenum content, has significantly better corrosion resistance than 304.

Magnetic Testing

Austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 and 316) are generally non-magnetic. Weak magnetism after cold working is normal; ferritic stainless steel exhibits strong magnetism.

2. Processing and Appearance Inspection of Stainless Steel Finned Tubes

Welding Quality

For high-frequency welded finned tubes, check that the weld seam is uniform and free of voids. A narrow weld width and a minimal heat-affected zone are preferred.

Fin Regularity

The fins should be neatly arranged, evenly spaced, and have a smooth surface free of deformation or damage to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
